A tidy landscape starts with proper trimming & pruning

Overgrown shrubs, messy hedges, and unshaped trees can quickly make even the nicest Easley property look neglected. At Morales Landscaping & Pinestraw, we specialize in professional trimming and pruning services that restore order, enhance curb appeal, and promote healthy plant growth. Whether it’s thick boxwoods in Middle Creek, towering hollies in Smithfields, or flowering crepe myrtles along your front walkway, we have the tools and experience to shape and maintain a clean, well-balanced landscape.

Keep your Easley landscape looking sharp year-round

In Easley’s warm climate, hedges, shrubs, and small ornamental trees can grow fast—sometimes too fast. Without regular trimming, plants like ligustrum, loropetalum, yaupon holly, and azaleas can lose their shape, block walkways, or become unsightly.

That’s where we come in. Morales Landscaping & Pinestraw offers expert pruning services for Easley homeowners who want their property to look polished and well-kept in every season.

From structural tree pruning to detailed hedge shaping, we make sure your plants stay healthy, neat, and in proportion to your landscape.

The Importance of Regular Trimming and Pruning for Easley Landscapes

Trimming and pruning aren’t just about keeping your yard tidy—they’re essential to the long-term health and appearance of your landscape. In Easley, where fast-growing species like boxwood, holly, ligustrum, and crepe myrtle are common, routine maintenance is the key to preventing overgrowth, pest problems, and dead or diseased branches.

Benefits of regular trimming and pruning:

    • Encourages healthy new growth and flowering
    • Shapes plants for symmetry and visual appeal
    • Prevents shrubs and trees from overtaking walkways or windows
    • Improves airflow and sunlight penetration
    • Helps detect and remove disease or insect damage early
    • Supports stronger, more resilient plant structure

Whether you need seasonal touch-ups or a complete trimming plan, our team ensures your Easley property always looks manicured and vibrant.

    • Loropetalum – Fast-growing and colorful, but easily overgrown without pruning
    • Yaupon Holly – Popular in Easley for its versatility, but benefits from regular thinning and shaping
    • Ligustrum (Privet) – Fast-growing and dense; ideal for privacy but needs routine trimming
    • Azaleas & Camellias – Pruned after bloom to encourage healthier flowering next season
    • Crepe Myrtles – Require proper pruning techniques (no “crepe murder”) to maintain structure and blooms
    • Japanese Maples – Delicate and beautiful, these trees need selective pruning for shape and airflow
    • Wax Myrtle – Often used in Easley as screening, this plant benefits from structured, seasonal pruning
    • Hydrangeas – Pruned according to species to encourage blooming and manage size

We also handle hedge reduction, shrub rejuvenation, and corrective pruning for overgrown or neglected landscapes. Whether your goal is curb appeal, plant health, or both, we ensure every cut is made with care and purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trimming

The ideal time depends on the type of plant and its growth habits. Generally, we trim evergreen hedges in late spring or early summer and deciduous hedges in late winter or early spring when they are dormant.

It varies depending on the type of hedge or shrub and the desired appearance. Some fast-growing hedges may need trimming 2-3 times during the growing season, while others may only need annual or biannual trimming.  During an on-site visit we can give you the best recommended trimming and pruning interval for your specific plants.

Pruning typically involves selectively removing branches to improve plant health and shape, while trimming focuses on maintaining a neat, uniform appearance for hedges and shrubs.  The two terms are often used interchangeably but they do mean different things.

Generally, it's a good rule of thumb to not remove more than one-third of the plant's total growth in a single session. Over-trimming your plants can stress the plant and impede healthy growth.

Trim flowering shrubs soon after they finish blooming to avoid removing buds for the next season. For spring-blooming shrubs, trim shortly after flowering, and for summer-blooming shrubs, trim in late winter or early spring.

Trim regularly to encourage branching and maintain a slightly tapered shape to ensure adequate sunlight exposure to the entire hedge.

For tall hedges and shrubs we'll typically use a pole pruner, or an extendable hedge trimmer.  We usually try and access the hedge using a step ladder so we can safely reach the taller branches.  Taller hedges and shrubs can cost more in labor because they do take longer to trim.

I had this company install a retaining wall and remove a tree. I had a good experience from contacting them through project completion. Their prices were the best out of 3 different quotes. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They are now my go to landscaping company.
